Akupara Games and Tmesis Studio's latest adventure game, Universe for Sale, is now available. Akupara Games has a strong track record this year, with successful releases like The Darkside Detective series and Zoeti.
Is the Universe Actually for Sale?
The game unfolds on a Jupiter space station, a bizarre marketplace shrouded in acid rain and mystery. Orangutans with surprising wit work the docks, and cultists barter flesh for enlightenment. The universe itself is for sale, thanks to Lila, a woman with the unusual ability to create universes from her hand.
The game begins in a mining colony's shantytown. You play as the Master, a skeletal cultist from the Cult of Detachment – a character both unsettling and captivating.
Exploring the ramshackle colony, filled with quirky shops, you eventually encounter Honin's Tea House, Lila's establishment. Lila's enigmatic nature unfolds as you shift between her perspective and the Master's throughout the gameplay.
Playing as Lila involves a mini-game where you create universes by combining ingredients, resulting in stunning visual worlds. The Master's journey delves into the philosophies of the Cult of Detachment and interactions with the Church of Many Gods.
The narrative unfolds gradually, prompting players to theorize about the overarching mystery. Each character, whether human, skeletal, or robotic, possesses a unique story, and the world is richly detailed, encouraging thorough exploration.
