Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Switch and PS4 in Europe. The reason cited is technical difficulties related to multilingual European localization. This news has left many fans disappointed.
Omori's Physical Release Cancellation in Europe
A String of Postponements
The cancellation, announced via Twitter (X), follows a series of delays. Initially slated for a March 2023 European release, the physical version was pushed back to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025. Pre-orders were subsequently cancelled by retailers like Amazon. Meridiem Games has offered no further details regarding the specific localization issues.
This cancellation is particularly frustrating for European fans, as it prevents the official release of the game in Spanish and other European languages. While a digital release remains available, obtaining a physical copy now requires importing a US version.
Omori is a critically acclaimed RPG following Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic event. The game seamlessly blends the real world with Sunny's dream world, where he becomes Omori. Initially launched on PC in December 2020, it expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to an unrelated issue involving an older T-shirt design from the developer, OMOCAT.
