Bandai Namco's popular fortress strategy RPG, Naruto X Boruto Ninja Voltage, is officially shutting down on December 9th, 2024. This isn't entirely unexpected, mirroring the fate of other Naruto gacha games like Naruto Blazing.
The game, launched in 2017, enjoyed a successful run for nearly seven years. However, a decline began around the midpoint of its lifespan. While initially praised for its balanced gameplay, featuring village building and strategic defense, the introduction of powerful characters like Minato sparked a noticeable power creep. This, coupled with increasingly overt pay-to-win mechanics, reduced free-to-play rewards, and the near-disappearance of multiplayer features, ultimately led to a player exodus.
Before the final shutdown, several in-game events are planned: the Village Leader World Championship (October 8th-18th), an All-Out Mission (October 18th-November 1st), and a "Thanks For Everything" campaign (November 1st-December 1st). Players can continue collecting Ninja Cards, participating in summons, and using in-game items until the service ends. Any remaining Gold Coins should be spent before December 9th.
While the game is still available on the Google Play Store, its impending closure highlights the challenges faced by many gacha games in maintaining long-term player engagement and avoiding the pitfalls of power creep and pay-to-win mechanics.
