While eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, fans are revisiting the classic DOOM titles. Good news! The developers have resumed work and recently released an update for the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation.
This update significantly enhances the technical aspects of the games, and more! It now includes support for multiplayer modifications, compatible with mods built using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative play is improved with shared item pickup and an observer mode for players awaiting revival. Multiplayer network code has also been optimized, and the mod loader can now handle over 100 subscribed mods.
Looking ahead to The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer unparalleled customization options, exceeding those of previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the commitment to accessibility, allowing players to adjust enemy damage, difficulty, projectile speed, damage taken, and even the game's pace, aggression levels, and parry timing. Furthermore, Stratton confirmed that prior DOOM experience isn't necessary to understand the narratives in DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal.
