Unlike World and Rise, where helpful Palicos handle cooking, Monster Hunter Wilds requires you to prepare your own meals. There are two convenient methods:

  • Cooking in your tent: After accepting a quest, take a moment to prepare. In your tent, navigate to the BBQ menu (L1 or R1) and select "Grill a Meal."
  • Using the Portable BBQ Grill: Access the Portable BBQ Grill from your inventory and press the square button to begin cooking.

Which Meals to Cook?

The cooking menu offers three meal types: Recommended, Custom, and Favorite.

  • Recommended Meals: These basic meals use a Ration and any additional ingredients you possess. A Ration-only meal provides a 30-minute buff with +50 Health, +150 Stamina, and +2 Attack. Adding ingredients extends this buff by 20 minutes. This is a solid baseline for your hunting preparations.

  • Custom Meals: For greater customization, select the custom option. Choose one Ration (meat, fish, or vegetables, each offering different buffs like increased attack, defense, or elemental resistances), one ingredient, and a finishing touch. Ingredients and finishing touches enhance your meal, providing additional buffs such as improved gathering or reduced damage taken.

Once your meal is prepared, your Hunter will automatically eat, readying you for the hunt.
