Netflix Games is losing two major titles next month: Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. This isn't a surprise; Netflix licenses games temporarily, and these titles' licenses are expiring.
Why the Departure? When Will They Go?
The licenses for GTA III and Vice City, added to Netflix Games a year ago, are concluding on December 13th. Netflix typically adds a "Leaving Soon" tag to affected games. This means Netflix's initial 12-month agreement with Rockstar Games is ending.
If you're currently playing either game through Netflix, you'll need to finish up soon. However, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains available on the platform.
What Happens After December 13th?
Don't worry, these aren't vanishing into thin air. Both GTA III and Vice City are available for purchase on the Google Play Store as part of "The Definitive Editions." Individual games cost $4.99, or you can get the complete trilogy for $11.99.
Unlike the abrupt removal of titles like Samurai Shodown V and WrestleQuest last year, Netflix is giving players advance notice. This is somewhat ironic, considering the GTA trilogy's contribution to Netflix Games' subscriber growth in 2023.
There are rumors, however, that Rockstar and Netflix are collaborating on potential future releases, possibly remastered versions of Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and even Chinatown Wars. Fingers crossed!
