NieR: Automata boasts a diverse arsenal of weapons, upgradeable multiple times to extend their lifespan. This guide focuses on acquiring Beast Hides, a crucial crafting material not readily available.
Obtaining Beast Hides
Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife like moose and boar, found randomly in specific areas. These animals are easily spotted on the mini-map with their white icons (unlike the black icons of machines). They tend to avoid players and robots.
Wildlife Locations and Behavior
Moose and boar exclusively inhabit the ruined city and forest zones. Their reaction to combat depends on your level relative to theirs: lower-level animals flee, while those at or above your level may attack or become aggressive if approached. Wildlife possesses substantial health, making early-game encounters challenging.
Farming Strategies
Animal Bait can lure wildlife, simplifying hunting. However, unlike machines, wildlife doesn't continuously respawn during the main storyline. Respawn mechanics are similar to machines:
- Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
- Traveling a sufficient distance away respawns creatures in previously visited areas.
- Progressing through story events can trigger respawns.
Efficient Acquisition
There's no dedicated farming method for Beast Hides. The best approach is to eliminate all encountered wildlife while exploring the forest and city ruins. Beast Hides have a relatively high drop rate, ensuring you'll generally acquire enough for your needs without excessive farming. Focus on upgrading only currently equipped weapons to avoid unnecessary stockpiling.
