The Pokémon TCG Pocket developers, DeNA, have promised improvements to the game's trading feature following significant player backlash. Let's delve into the reasons behind the player complaints.
Pokémon TCG Pocket: Player Complaints Regarding the Latest Update
The High Cost of Trade Tokens
The recently implemented trading feature, launched January 29th, 2025, allows players to trade 1-4 star rarity cards from Genetic Apex and Mythical Island booster packs. While a helpful addition for Pokédex completionists, the feature's limitations—restricted card selection, a new in-game currency, and exorbitant trading costs—have sparked considerable dissatisfaction. DeNA acknowledged this negative feedback in a February 1st, 2025, Twitter (X) post, pledging to address these concerns.
DeNA's response indicates they are actively exploring solutions, including alternative methods for obtaining trade tokens, such as through in-game events. Currently, trading is limited to 1-star cards, and acquiring the necessary tokens requires sacrificing higher-rarity cards, creating an inefficient and frustrating system. For example, trading a 4-Diamond card demands 500 tokens, while selling a 1-star card yields only 100, forcing players to expend numerous rare cards to facilitate trades.
DeNA clarified that the stringent rules were implemented to deter bot activity and multi-account exploitation, aiming to maintain a fair and enjoyable collecting experience. While further changes remain unannounced, it’s likely that the developers are carefully considering potential exploits before releasing any updates.
The Apparent Disappearance of Genetic Apex Packs
Another point of contention stems from the January 29th, 2025, release of Space-Time Smackdown booster packs. Reddit discussions highlighted concerns that Genetic Apex packs had been removed. This proved to be a misunderstanding; the packs are still accessible, but their location within the game's interface is poorly signposted.
While this can be attributed to poor UI/UX design, some players interpreted it as a deliberate attempt to promote the newer packs. This is problematic for players who haven’t yet completed their Genetic Apex collections. Suggestions for improving the in-game display of all available booster packs have been made, although DeNA hasn't yet responded to this specific issue. This clarification should alleviate concerns that Genetic Apex packs are permanently unavailable.
