Sony's Latest Patents: AI-Powered Predictions and a DualSense Gun Attachment
Sony has filed two intriguing patents aimed at enhancing the gaming experience. These patents detail an AI-powered camera system and a realistic gun trigger attachment for the DualSense controller.
AI-Driven Input Prediction to Minimize Lag
A patent titled "Timed Input/Action Release" describes a camera system that monitors the player and controller. Utilizing AI and machine learning, the system predicts the player's next inputs. Alternatively, the system could interpret "incomplete controller actions" to anticipate player intent. This proactive approach aims to reduce online gaming latency by preemptively processing inputs, thus mitigating lag.
Enhanced Gunplay Realism with a DualSense Trigger Attachment
Another patent focuses on a trigger attachment designed to transform the DualSense controller into a more realistic firearm simulation. Players would hold the controller sideways, using the space between the R1 and R2 buttons as a sight, and pressing the trigger to simulate firing. This accessory is potentially compatible with other devices, including the PSVR2 headset.
Sony's extensive patent portfolio, with a remarkable 78% of its 95,533 patents still active, showcases its commitment to innovation. Past patents have explored concepts like adaptive difficulty, a DualSense controller with integrated earbud charging, and temperature-sensitive controllers that reflect in-game events. However, it's important to remember that a patent doesn't guarantee product release. Only time will tell if these latest innovations will make their way to market.
