Apple has officially greenlit the highly acclaimed series Severance for a third season. This sci-fi psychological thriller, helmed by Ben Stiller and Dan Erickson, remains the most popular show on Apple TV+. The recently concluded second season broke records as the most-watched series ever on the platform. Dive into IGN's review of Severance Season 2 for our take on the latest developments.
Ben Stiller, who has been instrumental in the show's creation, shared his enthusiasm: “Making Severance has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of. While I have no memory of this, I’m told making Season 3 will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.”
Adam Scott, the star and executive producer, echoed this sentiment: “I couldn’t be more excited to get back to work with Ben, Dan, the incredible cast and crew, Apple and the whole Severance team. Oh hey also - not a huge deal - but if you see my innie, please don’t mention any of this to him. Thanks.”

Apple's official synopsis provides insight into the series: "In Severance, Mark Scout (Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure that surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in ‘work-life balance’ is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself."
Season 2 delved deeper into the consequences of tampering with the severance barrier, pushing Mark and his team down a path of further intrigue. The season introduced new series regulars Sarah Bock and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, adding fresh dynamics to the narrative.
While there is no set release date for Season 3 yet, Ben Stiller, in a recent appearance on Jason and Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast, reassured fans that the wait won't be as long as the three-year gap between Seasons 1 and 2. “No, the plan is not to [wait three years],” Stiller affirmed. “Definitely not. Hopefully we’ll be announcing what the plan is very soon. That will not be that!” He attributed the previous delay to the writers’ and actors’ strike, explaining, "There was a writers’ and actors’ strike, and it took us a while to regroup after that. I think we shot for 186 days on Season 2. There was a lot of shooting and editing, and editing takes a while. But thank goodness that the audience was there when we came back on."
