The latest addition to Ubisoft's esteemed series of stealth-action open-world games, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally arrived, sparking discussions about its place within the franchise. With over 30 games under the Assassin’s Creed banner, we focus here on the mainline entries, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR titles, and spin-offs such as Bloodlines and Liberation.
The journey began in 2007 with Desmond Miles entering the Animus to experience the life of his ancestor Altaïr. Fast forward to 2025, and the series transports us to 16th-century Japan, where players embody Naoe and Yasuke. This marks the 14th installment in the core series. I've crafted a personal tier list based on my enjoyment of each game, which you can view below:
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains my top pick, cherished for its blend of island exploration, ship combat, and vibrant characters, making it the ultimate Assassin’s Creed experience in my eyes. It shares the S-tier with Assassin’s Creed 2, the game that truly elevated the series to fame. In the A-tier, Valhalla stands out for its Viking-inspired combat and the addictive Orlog minigame, joined by Unity, which boasts a breathtaking recreation of Paris during the French Revolution, even a decade after its release.
Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla too expansive or consider Assassin’s Creed 2 overrated? You can create your own tier list and compare your S, A, B, C, and D rankings with the broader IGN community.
