Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7: A Million Mods and Counting!
Larian Studios' highly anticipated Patch 7 for Baldur's Gate 3 has unleashed a tidal wave of community-created mods. The response has been phenomenal, with an incredible number of modifications downloaded in record time.
Larian CEO Swen Vincke proudly announced on X (formerly Twitter) that over one million mods were installed within 24 hours of Patch 7's September 5th release. This figure was quickly eclipsed, with mod.io founder Scott Reismanis reporting over 3 million installs and counting. This explosive growth is a testament to the game's robust modding tools and the creativity of its player base.
Patch 7 itself brought significant enhancements, including new evil endings, improved split-screen, and the much-requested official Mod Manager. This integrated tool simplifies mod browsing, installation, and management directly within the game.
The existing modding tools, available separately via Steam, empower creators to craft their own narratives using Larian's Osiris scripting language. Modders can also incorporate custom scripts and utilize basic debugging features, publishing their creations directly from the toolkit.
Cross-Platform Modding on the Horizon
PC Gamer highlighted a community-created "BG3 Toolkit Unlocked" (by modder Siegfre on Nexus) which expands the editor's capabilities, including a full level editor and re-enabled previously restricted features. While Larian initially exercised caution regarding full tool access, Vincke confirmed the studio's commitment to cross-platform modding, acknowledging the significant development challenge of ensuring compatibility across PC and consoles. The PC version will receive priority, with console support following after thorough testing and certification.
Beyond modding, Patch 7 delivers numerous improvements: refined UI, enhanced animations, expanded dialogue options, and extensive bug fixes and performance optimizations. With future updates planned, Larian's commitment to both the game and its thriving modding community is clear.
