A Beloved Classic Deserves a Modern Update
Bloodborne, the critically acclaimed 2015 RPG, holds a special place in many gamers' hearts. The desire to revisit Yharnam's gothic streets on current-gen consoles is widespread. While no official announcement has been made, recent posts on FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia's Instagram accounts featuring the game have ignited a wildfire of speculation.
On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three images showcasing the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." One image featured Djura, a formidable hunter encountered in Old Yharnam. The others depicted the player hunter exploring Yharnam's core and the chilling Charnel Lane graveyards.
While these posts could simply be a nostalgic throwback, dedicated Bloodborne fans on platforms like Twitter (X) are meticulously analyzing every detail, searching for hidden clues hinting at a long-awaited remaster. The timing feels particularly significant, especially given a similar post from PlayStation Italia on August 17th.
PlayStation Italia's post, translated, asked fans to choose their favorite iconic Bloodborne locations. The comments section is filled with passionate pleas for a Yharnam return, some reminiscing about favorite spots, others humorously suggesting that the most iconic location would be on PC or modern consoles.
The Hunt for Bloodborne on Modern Consoles Continues, Nearly a Decade On
Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne has cultivated a fiercely loyal following, earning widespread critical acclaim and recognition as one of gaming's all-time greats. Despite this, a sequel or remaster remains elusive.
Fans often cite the 2020 remake of Demon's Souls (originally released in 2009) as a potential precedent for a Bloodborne revival. However, this hope is tempered by the lengthy wait for the Demon's Souls remake. With Bloodborne's tenth anniversary approaching, the anticipation is palpable.
Fuel was added to the fire in a February interview with Eurogamer, where Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki acknowledged the potential benefits of remastering the game for modern hardware, emphasizing the increased accessibility for a wider audience.
However, Miyazaki also clarified that the final decision rests not with FromSoftware, but with Sony, who hold the publishing rights. Unlike Elden Ring, FromSoftware doesn't own the Bloodborne IP.
The passionate Bloodborne community's desire for a remake is undeniable. Despite the game's success, its availability remains limited to PS4. Only time will tell if these recent hints translate into a concrete announcement.
