Enhanced Weapon Manufacturer System in Borderlands 4
Greater Customization & Unexpected Combinations

The Borderlands franchise has built its reputation on innovative weapon mechanics, and Gearbox is pushing boundaries even further in Borderlands 4. Executive Producer Chris Brock revealed to GamesRadar+ that while previous entries delivered impressive armaments, the new installment introduces groundbreaking customization options.
"Our existing weapon framework works well, but we're engineering more opportunities for emergent gameplay," Brock explained. He highlighted the new "licensed parts" system that allows manufacturers' signature traits to crossover between weapon types.
Each manufacturer maintains distinct characteristics that help players quickly identify preferred weapons, streamlining the looter-shooter experience while preserving depth.

Borderlands 4 debuts three fresh manufacturers - Order, Ripper, and Daedalus - alongside returning favorites like Jakobs, Maliwan, and Vladof. Some brands like COV and Hyperion have been retired following narrative developments in previous games.
Gearbox prioritizes weapon innovation after Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina's Wonderland featured over a billion possible firearms. Senior Project Producer Anthony Nicholson emphasized the studio's commitment to expanding player choice: "We're constantly introducing new manufacturers, legendary weapons, and customization options that let players express their combat style."
Nicholson confirmed Borderlands 4 will offer billions of weapon variants and attachments for players to collect and experiment with.
