Gearbox has officially announced the highly anticipated release date for Borderlands 4. During the recent State of Play event, Gearbox President Randy Pitchford revealed that the game will launch on September 23, 2025. In celebration, Gearbox released a brand-new trailer showcasing some of the exciting gameplay features coming to the series.
One of the most notable additions highlighted in the trailer is the introduction of a grappling hook mechanic. However, fans of over-the-top weapons, explosive chaos, and outrageous adventures will find plenty to look forward to in the latest footage. To mark the occasion, Gearbox also announced a special Borderlands 4-themed State of Play event set to premiere this spring. The dedicated stream will dive deeper into new gameplay mechanics and showcase even more of the game's arsenal—a hallmark feature of the series.
While we’re still awaiting further story details, it’s worth noting that the lead writer mentioned the previous game leaned heavily on "toilet humor." It remains to be seen whether Borderlands 4 will adopt a more mature or serious narrative tone.
