News of a potentially canceled Crash Bandicoot 5 has surfaced, hinted at by former Toys For Bob concept artist, Nicholas Kole. Kole's revelation came amidst discussion of another scrapped project, "Project Dragon," on X (formerly Twitter). While "Project Dragon" was clarified as a new IP unrelated to Spyro, Kole's comment, "It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts," ignited a wave of disappointment among fans.
The cancellation rumor follows Toys For Bob's transition to an independent studio after parting ways with Activision Blizzard earlier this year. Interestingly, Toys For Bob is now collaborating with Microsoft Xbox for their upcoming independent title, though details remain scarce.
The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (2020), achieved significant success with over five million units sold. Subsequent releases included Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter of which concluded live service support in March 2024.
With Toys For Bob's newfound independence, the possibility of a future Crash Bandicoot 5 remains open. However, the uncertainty leaves fans anxiously awaiting any official announcements regarding the fate of this highly anticipated sequel.
