Pearl Abyss Rejects PS5 Exclusivity Deal for Crimson Desert, Opting for Independent Publishing

Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure game Crimson Desert, has reportedly declined a PlayStation exclusivity deal with Sony. The studio is committed to self-publishing the title, prioritizing independence and maximizing profitability.
"During our recent earnings call, we publicly announced our intention to independently publish Crimson Desert," the developer stated in a response to Eurogamer. "We value our partnerships and maintain ongoing communication regarding our progress and plans, exploring various collaborative opportunities."
While a release date and definitive platform list remain unconfirmed, Pearl Abyss plans a public demonstration of Crimson Desert at G-Star in November. A playable build will also be showcased to media this week in Paris. The developer clarified that any articles speculating on release dates are purely conjecture.
September investor meetings revealed Sony's attempt to secure a PS5 exclusive deal, potentially delaying or preventing an Xbox release. However, Pearl Abyss's self-publishing strategy was deemed more financially advantageous.
While the final platform lineup remains unannounced, a PC, PlayStation, and Xbox release is anticipated around Q2 2025.
