Snow White, directed by Marc Webb known for The Amazing Spider-Man films, faced a challenging start at the box office. According to Comscore, the film earned a domestic opening of $43 million, marking it as the second highest debut of 2025, only surpassed by the MCU's Captain America: Brave New World. However, this figure falls short of the $45 million opening of the live-action Dumbo in 2019 and did not meet pre-release expectations.
To put this into perspective, other Disney live-action remakes have seen much stronger openings. The Lion King (2019), Beauty and the Beast (2017), The Jungle Book (2016), and The Little Mermaid (2023) all surpassed the $100 million mark in their domestic opening weekends.
Internationally, Snow White's performance was similarly subdued, pulling in $44.3 million over its opening weekend. This brings the global total to $87.3 million, as reported by Comscore.
Snow White is a live-action adaptation of Disney's iconic 1937 animated film, featuring Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. With a hefty production budget reportedly exceeding $250 million, the film's initial box office results suggest a steep climb to profitability, especially when factoring in marketing expenses.
Despite the slow start, there's potential for Snow White to follow in the footsteps of Mufasa: The Lion King, which, despite a modest $35.4 million domestic opening, went on to earn over $717 million worldwide. Disney is likely hoping for a similar turnaround with Snow White, even as questions linger about the performance of Captain America: Brave New World, which has grossed $400.8 million globally after six weekends.
IGN's review of Snow White awarded it a 7/10, praising it for being a meaningful adaptation rather than a mere imitation of the original.
