FromSoftware has unveiled further details about their exclusive title for the Nintendo Switch 2, The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's style but also led to a unique design for the keeper of the game's hub area, introducing a character that's decidedly more... adorable.
During the Switch 2 Direct, fans caught a glimpse of a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs, marking its debut as the new hub companion in The Duskbloods. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki, in an interview with Nintendo, elaborated on the character's role, saying, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance."
Miyazaki further explained the inspiration behind this character, stating, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership." He added with a laugh, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman."
The shrine keepers in FromSoftware's games have always been pivotal, serving as guides and support for players throughout their journeys. Iconic figures like Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll have been central to players' experiences, often providing the necessary power to progress. With The Duskbloods being a PvPvE game, it will be intriguing to see what specific advice and guidance the winged rat will offer.
Miyazaki hinted at the game's innovative approach, noting that the team at FromSoft has "tried its hands at introducing a lot of new and interesting ideas." Players can look forward to surprises when The Duskbloods launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
