In a recent online interview with Dan Allen Gaming, Glen Schofield, the creator of the beloved Dead Space series, revealed that Electronic Arts (EA) has currently no interest in pursuing a fourth installment in the acclaimed sci-fi horror franchise. This news has left fans of the series disheartened, but there's still a glimmer of hope for the future.
EA Currently Not Interested In Dead Space
Developers Still Hope For New Entry In The Future
The possibility of Dead Space 4 seems to be on hold indefinitely, or perhaps permanently, according to Schofield's interview. Joined by fellow developers Christopher Stone and Bret Robbins, the trio discussed their unsuccessful pitch to EA earlier this year. Stone recounted an endearing moment when his son, after playing Dead Space, pleaded for a new game, to which he could only respond with a wistful "I wish."
Despite the enthusiasm from fans and the developers themselves, EA swiftly rejected the proposal. Schofield explained, "We didn’t go too deep. They just said ‘We’re not interested right now, we appreciate it blah blah blah’ and we know who to talk to, so we didn’t go take it any further." He added that the team respected EA's decision, acknowledging that the publisher has a keen understanding of market demands and the financial aspects of game development. Stone noted the current hesitancy in the industry to take risks, particularly with a franchise that's over a decade old.
Despite the setback, the success of last year's Dead Space remake, which scored an impressive 89 on Metacritic and received a Very Positive review rating on Steam, showcases the enduring appeal of the series. However, it seems that this success might not be enough to convince EA to greenlight a new entry.
Despite the rejection, the developers remain hopeful. "Maybe one day, I think we’d all love to do it," Stone expressed optimistically, with Schofield and Robbins nodding in agreement. Although they are no longer working together in one studio and are each engaged in their own projects, the passion for creating Dead Space 4 remains strong. They believe that, given time, the iconic horror series might see a revival.
