Robert Eggers, fresh off his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the beloved fantasy classic, Labyrinth.
According to Variety, Eggers will helm this new chapter, penning the script alongside his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. The project was previously in development with Scott Derrickson (director of Sinister) attached, but with no progress since 2023, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted for Eggers' vision.
The original 1986 Labyrinth, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows a young girl's journey into a fantastical realm to rescue her kidnapped brother, aided by a cast of Henson puppets.
This isn't Eggers' only upcoming project. He's also directing a werewolf film titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Details are scarce, but the film is set in 13th-century England and will feature dialogue in Old English.
Eggers' Nosferatu, a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film, premiered last Christmas. Set in 19th-century Germany, the film follows a real estate agent whose dealings with a Transylvanian count unleash vampiric horrors.
Nosferatu received four Academy Award nominations: Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. Read our review here.
