Elden Ring is set to make its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, a thrilling announcement that came during Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct. While it's not yet clear how this version will compare to those on other platforms, the inclusion of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition in today's presentation is a promise to Nintendo fans that they'll get to experience this open-world masterpiece later this year.
Since its release in February 2022, Elden Ring has become a cultural phenomenon, selling over 13 million copies within the first month and reaching nearly 29 million copies sold at the latest count. The game has seen players conquer its challenging bosses using unconventional methods like the Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controller and has inspired ambitious speedrunning challenges. Following its success, FromSoftware released the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in 2023, and the upcoming cooperative spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign, has shown promising results in early public network test sessions.
In our 10/10 review, IGN praised Elden Ring, stating, "Elden Ring is a massive iteration on what FromSoftware began with the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path." The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC also received a perfect score from us: "Like the base game did before it, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree raises the bar for single-player DLC expansions. It takes everything that made the base game such a landmark RPG, condenses it into a relatively compact 20-25 hour campaign, and provides fantastic new challenges for heavily invested fans to chew on."
FromSoftware has yet to announce a specific release date for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on the Nintendo Switch 2, nor have they detailed how this version will differ from previous releases.
