Fake Baldur’s Gate 3 Mobile Port Appears on App Store

Attention all Baldur's Gate 3 enthusiasts: a warning has been issued about a fraudulent mobile port of the game appearing on the iOS App Store. This scam, disguised as a legitimate port, is far from the real deal that fans are eagerly awaiting. It's crucial to note that there is no official direct mobile port of Baldur's Gate 3, and any app claiming to be such should be approached with caution.

Baldur's Gate 3 has been a monumental success for Larian Studios, hailed as one of the most celebrated RPGs in recent years. With its expansive world, intricate storytelling, and the depth of player choices, it's no wonder fans are clamoring for more. However, despite the game's popularity, Larian has confirmed they won't be developing Baldur's Gate 4. In the meantime, players continue to explore the rich content of Baldur's Gate 3. Yet, a recent discovery by VideoGamer has shed light on a deceptive app that promises to bring the game to mobile devices.

The scam app, masquerading as a mobile version of Baldur's Gate 3, uses modified screenshots from the actual game, complete with a fabricated mobile HUD. The listing, titled "Baldurs [sic] Gate 3 - Mobile Turuk," and developed by "Dmytro Turuk," lacks any reference to the game's Dungeons and Dragons heritage or its true developer, Larian Studios. This is a red flag for any discerning fan.

Baldur's Gate 3 Scam May Steal Data

While the app's appearance might not fool everyone, its initial free download could lure unsuspecting players in. The promise of playing Baldur's Gate 3 on a mobile device is tempting, and some may think they can simply uninstall if it turns out to be a fake. However, upon launching the app, users are hit with a subscription fee of $29.99 per month, revealing its true nature. More alarmingly, the app's terms of service suggest it may collect users' IP addresses and possibly other personal data. This isn't the first time a Baldur's Gate 3 scam has surfaced on app stores, and it may not be the last.

Currently, there's no similar app found on the Android store, but gamers on all platforms should remain vigilant. If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is. Larian has made no announcements regarding a mobile port of Baldur's Gate 3. However, fans of the series can still enjoy earlier entries like Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2, which are available on mobile. Additionally, Baldur's Gate 3 can be streamed through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. If you've already downloaded the fraudulent app, it's highly recommended to uninstall it immediately to protect your personal data.
