Acquiring Filler Metal in NieR: Automata: A Comprehensive Guide
Obtaining certain upgrade materials in NieR: Automata proves more challenging than others. Many are enemy drops, but some, like Filler Metal, are randomly spawned throughout the game world. This inherent randomness makes farming these items a game of chance.
Early in the game, Filler Metal requires exploration of the Factory's depths. Later, purchasing it becomes an option, albeit at a higher cost.
Locating Filler Metal in the Factory
Filler Metal is a rare item found in specific, randomly generated locations within the Factory. Its spawn rate is lower than other items. Accessing the Factory: Hanger fast travel point (unlocked after a main story progression point) is recommended for efficient searching. Note that you might need to unlock this access point again depending on your story progress.
While increased movement speed helps, reliably farming Filler Metal remains difficult. The most effective approach is a thorough exploration of the Factory, collecting all naturally spawned items.
Purchasing Filler Metal
Filler Metal can only be purchased from the Shopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park, but only after completing all three playthroughs and achieving one of the final endings. Using Chapter Select to revisit the Shopkeeper after completing the game will reveal Filler Metal in its inventory, priced at 11,250 G each.
Despite the high cost, buying Filler Metal offers a far more reliable method than repeatedly scouring the Factory. Since Pod upgrades requiring Filler Metal are crucial for defeating high-level enemies, this purchase may be necessary for completing the game.
