The beloved *Back to the Future* franchise is not slated for any future expansions, according to its screenwriter, Bob Gale. Despite recent buzz fueled by the *Cobra Kai* creators discussing a potential *Back to the Future* TV series, Gale remains firm that there will be no further developments. In a candid interview with People, he expressed frustration over the recurring questions about the franchise's future. "I don't know why they keep talking about that!" Gale exclaimed. "I mean, do they think that if they say it enough times, we're going to actually do it?"
Gale reiterated his stance on various revival ideas, emphatically stating, "Never" to the prospects of a *Back to the Future 4*, a prequel, or a spinoff. He values the trilogy as it stands, quoting director Robert Zemeckis, who once said, "It's perfect enough." While acknowledging that Hollywood could theoretically push for a revival, Gale pointed out that executive producer Steven Spielberg would also need to approve such a project. He humorously noted the extreme hypotheticals that might sway their decision, but affirmed Spielberg's respect for their wish to leave the franchise untouched, likening it to Spielberg's stance on not allowing another *E.T.*
Gale's firm position aligns with his previous sentiments. Earlier this year, he delivered a blunt message to fans hoping for more, saying, "People always say, 'When are you going to do *Back to the Future 4*?' And we say, 'F**k you.'" The original *Back to the Future* film, released in 1985, follows high school student Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) as he is accidentally sent back in time by the eccentric scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd). It became a landmark in sci-fi cinema and led to two successful sequels.
