MercurySteam, the Spanish studio behind acclaimed titles like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metroid Dread, has announced its latest creation: Blades of Fire, an action-RPG. Partnering with 505 Games, this dark fantasy adventure plunges players into a world teeming with enigmatic races and terrifying creatures.
The debut trailer showcases exhilarating hack-and-slash combat, a distinctive visual aesthetic, and a brooding, atmospheric backdrop. Gameplay and art direction echo the Lords of Shadow series, while environmental and enemy designs draw clear inspiration from Darksiders. Intriguingly, the trailer features a mechanical bird, hinting at its role in navigating the game's world.
Leveraging MercurySteam's proprietary Mercury Engine, Blades of Fire aims to sidestep the optimization challenges frequently associated with Unreal Engine 5 projects.
Target release date is May 22, 2025, for current-generation consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S) and PC (Epic Games Store).
