To help refresh fans’ memories, Netflix shared a recap of the original Happy Gilmore storyline:
In the first film, Happy Gilmore set out to earn enough money to save his grandmother’s house from being seized by the IRS due to unpaid taxes. A failed hockey player with a wild swing and an even wilder temper, Happy shocked the world by making it all the way to the Tour Championship—despite being a total outsider.
Along the way, he formed memorable bonds with Carl Weathers’ Chubbs Petersen and Allen Covert’s quirky homeless caddy. His fiercest rivals included Shooter McGavin and an unlikely antagonist—Bob Barker. Ultimately, Happy proved that unconventional talent can triumph over traditional skill, won the tournament, saved his grandma’s home, and found peace—at least until now.
While details about how the sequel reignites Happy’s golf journey remain under wraps, one thing is certain: Happy Gilmore remains a pop culture legend. Even real-world golf pros still celebrate his legacy.
