Hill Troll Location in Rune Slayer

The Hill Troll is concealed in a cave on the side of the mountain in Bahlgar. There are multiple paths to reach this location, but the most straightforward route starts from the elevator in Lakeshire. Head down to Bahlgar as you would to engage Beastmen. Instead of descending where the Beastmen are, stick close to the mountain wall and continue around it. Pass two platinum deposits and look towards one of the mountain's sides; you should spot the entrance to the Troll cave. To access it, you'll need to jump into this opening, ideally on a mount. It may seem tricky at first, but once you've done it, returning to the cave will become second nature. Check out our gif to see the route in action (we even stumbled upon a group of players battling the Troll and joined in to help).

Hill Troll – Strategy, Loot, and Quest

Despite its menacing appearance, the Hill Troll is one of the more manageable mini-bosses in Rune Slayer. You'll likely need to confront it multiple times, so you'll quickly become familiar with its attack patterns.

First and foremost, do not attempt to fight the Hill Troll alone. Although its attacks are predictable and can be dodged, it's best to team up with at least one other player. Finding a group shouldn't be difficult, as many players enjoy farming the Troll. Plus, after defeating it, the Troll respawns in just 90 seconds.

The Hill Troll wields a giant pillar, delivering slow but powerful attacks. You can parry and block most of its moves, but when it raises the pillar with both hands overhead, it's time to run, as this attack causes a stun. Speaking of stuns, dealing sufficient damage can stagger the Hill Troll. If you're playing as a Warrior Class, a well-timed Counter can almost always stun the Troll.

While the Hill Troll occasionally drops extremely rare equipment, don't count on it. Instead, focus on farming Troll Hides and Troll Heads. Troll Hides are essential for crafting solid endgame equipment. Though not the best, this gear will prepare you for tougher challenges like the Mother Spider.

The Troll Head is a Quest item for the repeatable Hodor Quest. Every hour, you can deliver a Troll Head to Hodor, who is near the cave, for a chance at some random loot. Hodor can reward you with some truly powerful gear, so if you're farming the Hill Troll, it's worth taking on this quest.

Can You Tame the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer?

No, you cannot tame the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer, even if you're playing as a Beast Tamer Archer. Despite not being a raid boss, the Hill Troll is still a mini-boss, and its size and bulk make it impractical as a pet. We also suspect it's too large to leave its cave. If you're a Beast Tamer Archer, stick with the reliable Mud Crab.

That's all you need to know. Enjoy battling the Hill Troll repeatedly, and we hope you secure some fantastic loot. For more assistance during the endgame, check out our Essential Rune Slayer End Game Tips.
