Following the successful launch of Quidditch Champions this week, Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed its plans for a sequel to last year's Harry Potter-based action RPG hit, Hogwarts Legacy—2023's best-selling game.

Expected in a “Couple Years Down the Road”
Warner Bros. Discovery has officially announced its intentions to develop a sequel to the immensely popular action RPG, Hogwarts Legacy. This Harry Potter-inspired game, which became the best-seller of 2023 with over 24 million copies sold since its release, is set to continue its legacy. During the Bank of America’s 2024 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels shared the exciting news with Variety.
"Obviously, a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road," Wiedenfels stated. "So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here."
David Haddad, from Warner Bros. Games, highlighted in an earlier interview with Variety the impressive replayability of Hogwarts Legacy. "Many players have gone back and played the game more than once," Haddad remarked. He emphasized that the game's success isn't just about the impressive sales figures and its ability to draw players back multiple times, but also about how it brings the magical world of Harry Potter to life in an innovative way. "It brought Harry Potter to life in a new way for gamers where they could be themselves in this world, in this story," he added.
This unique immersion into the Harry Potter universe is what Haddad believes truly "resonated so well" with fans, propelling Hogwarts Legacy to the top of the sales charts. "That’s a position that typically is held by one of these incumbent’s sequel games and we’re so proud that we’ve been able to break into the top ranks," he noted.
