Hollow Knight: Silksong Gets Steam Metadata Changes That Point to 2025 and Yes, We’re Doing This Again

Recent updates to the Steam listing of Hollow Knight: Silksong have sparked excitement and speculation among fans, hinting at a potential re-reveal and release in the near future. On March 24, changes were observed in the game's metadata, as documented on SteamDB. These updates include the addition of Hollow Knight: Silksong to GeForce Now, Nvidia's game streaming service, alongside modifications to assets and the copyright year on the Steam store page, which now reads 2025 instead of 2019.

These developments suggest that Hollow Knight: Silksong could be gearing up for a 2025 release. With Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2, fans are eagerly anticipating more news, possibly even a confirmation of the game's launch on the new console.

It has been six years since the announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong, with intermittent updates and long periods of silence from Team Cherry. The excitement peaked in January when cryptic social media posts from a developer led to rampant speculation about a potential re-reveal during the upcoming Switch 2 Direct. There's also buzz about the game possibly being a timed exclusive for Nintendo's next-generation console.

When Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced, Team Cherry confirmed its launch on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. Additionally, it's one of the most anticipated titles for Xbox Game Pass, thanks to Microsoft's deal with Team Cherry to bring the game to the service on launch day.

In June 2022, Microsoft included Hollow Knight: Silksong in its Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, promising a release within the next 12 months. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay past the first half of 2023, stating that the game had grown significantly and more time was needed to polish it. Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry's marketing and publishing lead, emphasized their commitment to delivering a high-quality product: "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

As the sequel to the critically acclaimed Hollow Knight from 2017, Silksong carries immense expectations. It remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam. IGN's review of the original game praised its rich world and engaging gameplay: "The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it’s worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight."
