It wouldn't be a Nintendo console without a Zelda game, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is keeping up with tradition in an unexpected way. During today's Nintendo Direct, we were thrilled to learn that Koei Tecmo is developing a new entry in the Hyrule Warriors series: a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom titled Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. Fans can look forward to diving into this new adventure this winter.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment isn't just another game in the series; it's a deep dive into the ancient history of Tears of the Kingdom. This time, the spotlight shines on characters from that era, including Zelda, Rauru, Sonia, and other Secret Stone holders. The game narrates Zelda's journey after she travels back in time, where she allies with the last Zonai, Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, to combat Ganondorf and his forces.

The trailer showcased the unique abilities of these champions, from Mineru piloting her mech to Zelda's enchanting magic, Rauru wielding an impressive sword-spear, and quick glimpses of other Sacred Stone wielders in action.
This marks the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which provided a prequel narrative to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Age of Calamity was particularly notable for its fresh take on the Breath of the Wild story, earning a 9/10 from us for being "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish." It will be fascinating to see if Age of Imprisonment follows suit with its own unique twist on the Tears of the Kingdom storyline.
