Cameras have begun rolling on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark this exciting milestone, DC Studios head James Gunn shared the first official image—a behind-the-scenes shot—of Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
In a Bluesky post, Gunn announced the commencement of filming, confirming House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, and showcasing a photo of Alcock in her director's chair. This offers a sneak peek at the actress embodying the iconic superhero.
Gunn's post also confirmed Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) as the film's director, a fact previously reported last April. He expressed his excitement about the project's start at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, praising Alcock's talent.
While plot details remain scarce, the film will heavily adapt Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's acclaimed graphic novel. This standalone story centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl seeking revenge for her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, enlisting Supergirl's aid. Nominated for a 2022 Eisner Award for "Best Limited Series," the graphic novel is highly recommended for those unfamiliar with the source material.
The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, reprising his role as Lobo within the newly established DC Universe.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, slated for release this summer, as the second film in the rebooted DC Universe. Other upcoming projects in development include The Batman Part II (its connection to Gunn's universe remains unclear) and a reported Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
