Let the demon hunting begin! Netflix is bringing the iconic video game series Devil May Cry to life with an anime adaptation, and fans have just been treated to a tantalizing new trailer. But perhaps the most thrilling news is that the legendary late voice actor Kevin Conroy will posthumously lend his voice to the series.
Conroy, renowned for his iconic portrayal of Bruce Wayne and Batman in numerous animated projects, will voice the new character VP Baines. His voice can be heard at the start of the trailer, adding a profound touch to the series. Conroy's last posthumous performance was in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3, where he received widespread acclaim. It's heartening to know that fans will get another chance to appreciate his talent following his passing in November 2022 at the age of 66.
Joining Conroy in the cast are Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary, Hoon Lee as White Rabbit, Chris Coppola as Enzo, and Johnny Yong Bosch as the lead character, Dante.
According to Netflix's official synopsis, "Sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck."
Adi Shankar, known for his work on films like the 2012 Dredd reboot, Killing Them Softly, and The Voices, will serve as the showrunner for the series. Shankar is also slated to executive produce an adaptation of Assassin’s Creed, though its long-awaited release remains uncertain.
The anime will be brought to life by Studio Mir, the acclaimed South Korean studio behind hits like The Legend of Korra and X-Men ‘97. Devil May Cry is set to premiere on Netflix on April 3, 2025.
