Medieval action-RPG sequel, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD 2), will launch DRM-free, Warhorse Studios confirms. This follows player speculation and concerns about the game's potential use of DRM technology.
Warhorse Studios Clarifies: No DRM in KCD 2
Dismissing Claims of KCD 2 DRM Integration
Developer Warhorse Studios has definitively stated that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will not utilize any digital rights management (DRM) system, including Denuvo. Addressing recent Twitch community engagement, PR head Tobias Stolz-Zwilling dispelled rumors and corrected "misinformation" surrounding the game's DRM status. He explicitly stated, "KCD 2 will not have Denuvo, or any DRM system at all." Stolz-Zwilling urged players to cease inquiries about DRM, emphasizing that any unconfirmed information circulating is inaccurate.
The absence of DRM is significant, given its often-cited negative impact on game performance. Denuvo, in particular, a popular anti-piracy DRM solution, has faced considerable player backlash due to perceived performance issues and negative user experiences. Denuvo product manager Andreas Ullmann has acknowledged this criticism, attributing the negative perception to misinformation and confirmation bias.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, set in medieval Bohemia, follows blacksmith-in-training Henry as he confronts a devastating event in his village. The game releases February 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Kickstarter backers who pledged at least $200 will receive a free copy.
