Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Resurgence: Over 200,000 Units Sold!
Released late last year, the Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster has reportedly exceeded 200,000 units sold, defying initial concerns about technical glitches and altered content. This sales success demonstrates strong player demand for the game.
Developed initially by Grasshopper Manufacture (renowned for the No More Heroes series), Lollipop Chainsaw is a vibrant action-hack-and-slash title. Players take on the role of Juliet Starling, a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader battling zombies. While the original developers didn't helm the remaster, Dragami Games stepped in, adding quality-of-life improvements and a significant visual upgrade.
Reaching the 200,000 sales milestone several months after its September 2024 launch, the remaster is available across current and last-gen consoles, as well as PC. This achievement was announced via a tweet from Dragami Games.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's Triumphant Sales Figures
The game's narrative follows Juliet as she uncovers her zombie-hunting heritage when her school is overrun by the undead. Fast-paced, hack-and-slash combat using Juliet's chainsaw is central to the gameplay, drawing comparisons to titles like Bayonetta.
The original 2012 release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 achieved even greater success, selling over one million copies. This initial popularity likely stemmed from the unique collaboration between Goichi Suda and James Gunn, who contributed significantly to the game's storyline and writing.
While future plans, such as additional content or a sequel, remain unannounced, the strong sales of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP bode well for remasters of other cult classics. This positive trend is further supported by the recent release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, bringing another Grasshopper Manufacture title to modern gaming platforms.
