Lunar Remastered Collection Release Date Announced

Summary

  • The Lunar Remastered Collection launches April 18th on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S compatibility.
  • The collection boasts fully voiced dialogue, a classic mode for nostalgic players, and quality-of-life improvements like faster combat and auto-battle.

Get ready for a blast from the past! The Lunar Remastered Collection, developed by Game Arts and published by GungHo Online Entertainment, arrives April 18th. This highly anticipated duology brings the first two Lunar games to modern consoles and PC via Steam, featuring updated graphics, a re-recorded soundtrack, and numerous quality-of-life enhancements.

First announced during a 2024 Sony State of Play, the remaster surprised and delighted many JRPG fans. Originally released in 1992 (Lunar: The Silver Star) and 1994 (Lunar: Eternal Blue) for the Sega CD, these titles later received PlayStation and Sega Saturn remakes. Even today, the Lunar series is celebrated as a Sega Saturn RPG masterpiece, making this remastered collection a highly anticipated event for fans.

GungHo Online Entertainment confirmed the April 18th launch date for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, with compatibility for current-gen consoles. Physical copies will be available in select North American and European stores. The remaster includes widescreen support, enhanced pixel art, and high-definition cutscenes. However, a classic mode faithfully recreates the original PS1-era visuals for purists.

The Lunar Remastered Collection also features fully voiced dialogue in Japanese and English, with added French and German subtitles. Gameplay enhancements include a speed-up combat command and streamlined auto-battle options. These quality-of-life features, now common in remastered JRPGs (like Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and the upcoming Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster), aim to optimize and accelerate combat.

This release continues the trend of beloved classic JRPGs finding new life on modern platforms. While the collection's ultimate commercial success remains to be seen, the prior success of Game Arts and GungHo Online Entertainment's Grandia HD Collection suggests a positive outlook.
