Nintendo has quietly included a legendary recurring Easter egg in its Switch 2 launch title Mario Kart World, as eagle-eyed fans have revealed.

Totaka's Song, the iconic musical motif that has stealthily appeared in numerous Nintendo titles over decades, has surfaced once again – this time in Mario Kart World's character selection menu.

To experience this nostalgic nod, simply hover over Yoshi on your character roster and wait while the green dinosaur dances. After a short while, he'll begin humming that instantly recognizable melody – confirming players have discovered yet another iteration of Totaka's Song.

"I was idling on the Character Select screen when I noticed Mario began humming after enough time passed," wrote Reddit user charizardtelephone. "The moment I thought about hidden musical Easter eggs in Nintendo games featuring Yoshi, I knew exactly what I might discover."

Legendary Japanese composer Kazumi Totaka, who provides Yoshi's voice across Nintendo games, has famously included variations of this melody in dozens of titles he's worked on. From Super Smash Bros. to Animal Crossing, Wii Sports to Pikmin, devoted fans have uncovered this musical signature everywhere.

"After waiting just a few moments, Yoshi started humming Totaka's Song exactly like in Mario Kart 8," charizardtelephone continued, recounting their discovery. "It's such a cool callback – surprising that more players haven't spotted it yet."

In Japan, Mario Kart World's initial sales have already surpassed those of Breath of the Wild during Switch 1's launch period. As Nintendo's flagship title bundled with the new console, the racing game marks a strong start for Switch 2. With Donkey Kong Bananza's reveal imminent in this week's Nintendo Direct, the company maintains momentum for its next-generation platform.
