While the gameplay may evoke comparisons to Rocket League, it bears a closer resemblance to Overwatch's Lucioball—itself inspired by Rocket League. This is a noteworthy parallel, as Marvel Rivals is currently outpacing Overwatch in popularity and needs to cultivate unique content to establish its own identity. Ironically, its inaugural major event features a game mode strikingly similar to Overwatch's first special event. The key difference lies in the thematic presentation: Overwatch's event had an Olympic Games theme, while Marvel Rivals embraces a vibrant Chinese New Year atmosphere.
