Marvel Rivals Dev Plans to Enhance Strategist Experience After Support Player Strike

Author : Joseph May 15,2025

NetEase Games, the developer behind Marvel Rivals, has swiftly responded to the community's concerns just days after fans initiated a Support strike aimed at highlighting issues faced by Strategists players. Season 2 of Marvel Rivals has been largely successful, introducing new characters, maps, and modes that have propelled the hero shooter forward. However, the balance changes implemented in this season have shifted the power dynamics, leaving the Strategists, who primarily serve as the game's Support class, feeling undervalued and overpowered by Vanguards and Duelists.

Since the launch of Season 2, the decreased viability of the Support class has sparked extensive discussions within the Marvel Rivals community. With other roles gaining more battlefield prowess, Strategist players have reported not only an increase in difficult matches but also encounters with toxicity, where teammates frequently criticize them via text and voice chats. The situation escalated to a community-wide strike, with numerous players vowing to avoid the healer role until NetEase addressed their grievances and proposed solutions to enhance the gaming experience for Strategists.

"We just want basic respect," stated one Reddit user. "We're not asking to be glorified or seen as the 'hardest' role - because I don't think we are. We just want basic respect. It's tiring to be called brain dead or worthless when your stats are solid and you're playing your role the way it's meant to be played."

In response to the strike and the ongoing challenges faced by players, NetEase has outlined its plans to alleviate the pressure on Strategists. In a Dev Talk post published on their website, the developer detailed a two-pronged approach that includes buffing the Support role and enhancing the rewards in Competitive mode.

NetEase plans to elevate the "threat levels" of Strategists in an upcoming patch, which could involve strengthening heroes like Invisible Woman or Jeff the Land Shark. Concurrently, they intend to implement nerfs to the survivability of Vanguards such as Captain America and Groot, and reduce the damage range of Spider-Man's Amazing Combo ability. While the exact characters receiving adjustments remain undisclosed, NetEase emphasized a cautious approach to these mid-season balance changes.

"Since this is a mid-season balance adjustment, we aim to be cautious, keeping changes minimal to enhance the experience of certain heroes without drastically altering the overall meta," NetEase explained. "As we move into S2.5, with Ultron's arrival and new Team-Up Ability adjustments, we'll consider broader, more comprehensive balance changes."

Additionally, adjustments to the Competitive mode's performance rating calculations are on the horizon to ensure fairness across all heroes. Duelists have enjoyed an advantage in performance ratings since Season 2 began, while Vanguards and Strategists have been at a disadvantage. "Balancing the game and rank adjustments is a challenging endeavor, and we can't guarantee perfection 100% of the time," the Dev Talk stated. "However, we remain humble and attentive, striving to address issues promptly and enhance your experience. Stay tuned for official patch announcements for more updates. Thank you for your support and patience!"

Season 2 of Marvel Rivals introduced Emma Frost as its newest playable Vanguard hero, with Season 2.5 set to feature Ultron. As the community awaits the impact of the upcoming balance changes on the Support strike, fans can also look forward to a potential addition of a collection of swimsuit skins, as hinted by a recent Marvel tease.
