Marvel Rivals, the acclaimed hero shooter, is a smash hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, NetEase has confirmed it won't be coming to the original Nintendo Switch, leaving many Nintendo players disappointed. But what about the Nintendo Switch 2?
We recently spoke with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas. The news for Switch fans is promising! A Switch 2 release is a strong possibility. Wu stated, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. Whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch was that the first generation device couldn't provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced last month. While specifics on its capabilities are still limited, it's expected to be a more powerful console with enhanced features. Interestingly, it appears to include mouse-like controller functionality, potentially making shooter games like Marvel Rivals feel more PC-like. The exact implementation remains to be seen. The Nintendo Switch 2 release date is yet to be announced, but a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd. Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received positive critical reception. Our 8/10 review praised the game, stating it "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." The Human Torch and The Thing are joining the roster as new heroes on February 21st.
