NetEase is rolling out an innovative experimental feature in Marvel Rivals aimed at improving stability and reducing memory consumption. Announced via a Twitter (X) post on April 30, the Switch Shader Compilation Mode promises a smoother gaming experience, particularly beneficial for players with limited RAM or those concerned about FPS.
A detailed blog post on the Marvel Rivals website sheds light on this feature, acknowledging players' concerns about performance issues like stutters and crashes due to high memory usage during gameplay.
The blog states, “To address the memory overload, we're unleashing an experimental feature in Season 2: the Switch Shader Compilation Mode. With the Season 2 update, players can activate this feature through the PC launcher.” This feature is especially recommended for those with 16GB of RAM or less.
Upon activation, the game will see significant improvements in:
- The shader compilation process, which will only run when first entering the game after a new game version or graphics driver update.
- Drastically reduced game memory usage, mitigating severe FPS drops, frozen visuals, and crashes due to memory shortages.
The developers have highlighted some known issues with this feature. At the start of each match, players may notice some materials rendering abnormally for a few frames, though they will correct themselves shortly. Kicking off Season 2, Marvel Rivals introduces a new Twitch Drops campaign running from April 11 at 12:00 UTC to April 30 at 23:59 UTC. To secure the exclusive rewards, players need to link their Marvel Rivals accounts to their Twitch accounts and watch any Marvel Rivals streams with Drops enabled.
The rewards are tiered based on watch time, offering players an array of exciting in-game items.
