Marvel Rivals developers have unveiled an exciting roadmap to keep the game dynamic and engaging, with plans to introduce new heroes monthly and shorten the duration of upcoming seasons. Dive into the details of their strategy post-Season 2, and discover the new characters and skins on the horizon.
Marvel Rivals Upcoming Changes
New Heroes Every Month
In a bid to maintain the game's freshness akin to its launch, NetEase has announced a shift from releasing two heroes per season to introducing a new hero every month. This thrilling update was shared by Marvel Rivals' Creative Director Guangguang and Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong during the Marvel Rivals’ Dev Vision Vol. 05 on April 4, alongside plans to adjust the length of each season.
The developers have decided to shorten each season from three months to two, starting with Season 3. Guangguang elaborated, "After extensive internal discussions and thorough evaluation, we’ve decided that starting from Season 3, the seasons will shift to a two-month format, with a new hero debuting each month."
Guangguang acknowledged the pressure from social media discussions to keep the game exciting, stating, "During this time, several discussions on social media have certainly added some pressure on us to keep the game as exciting as it has been since December." The team is also contemplating the addition of new game modes to enhance the experience, which could be introduced later. With these changes, players could see up to 12 new heroes added to the game annually.
While this ambitious plan presents a challenge in terms of hero balancing, Guangguang highlighted the team's approach in an interview with PC Gamer on March 14. He stressed the importance of analyzing key metric data across all game modes, including pick rates, win rates, stats, and abilities, saying, "This data serves as the foundation for our balancing efforts."
Season 2 Details and Future Plans
The Dev Vision also shed light on Season 2, dubbed the Hellfire Gala, where Marvel Heroes are invited by the new hero Emma Frost to explore the Mutant haven of the Living Island Krakoa. Emma Frost, an X-Men villain with telepathic powers and the ability to transform objects into diamonds, will join the game as a Vanguard.
The Hellfire Gala promises a lavish celebration, with the trailer showcasing new skins for characters like Luna Snow, Magneto, Cloak and Dagger, and Black Panther, all dressed in elegant formal wear. The event draws inspiration from Marvel’s Hellfire Club, a society of the wealthy and elite who influence global events.
Following Emma Frost's introduction, Season 2.5 will feature the arrival of Ultron, a notorious Marvel villain. The Hellfire Gala trailer teases a dramatic interruption by Ultron robots, signaling the onset of the Age of Ultron. Further details about Ultron's role are yet to be disclosed.
Thor’s Lord of Asgard and Hawkeye’s Ronin Skins Available Now!
Marvel Rivals took to Twitter (X) on April 4 to announce the availability of new skins for Thor and Hawkeye. Thor's Lord of Asgard skin draws inspiration from his revival by Odin in the comics, while Hawkeye's Ronin skin reflects his time as a vigilante samurai.
Thor’s Rune King bundle includes the Rune King costume, spray, nameplate, The Omniscient MVP, and Well of Mimir emote. Meanwhile, the Hawkeye Ronin bundle offers the Ronin skin, spray, nameplate, Deadly Rain MVP, and Hone to Perfection emote.
