Monster Hunter Wilds has soared to over 1 million concurrent players on Steam, despite receiving mixed reviews. Dive into this article to learn more about the game's performance on PC and the challenges it faces.

Monster Hunter Wilds Faced Numerous Issues At Launch

Despite the buzz of mixed reviews on Steam, Monster Hunter (MH) Wilds has captured the attention of over 1 million concurrent players. According to SteamDB, MH Wilds hit an all-time peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players, setting a new benchmark far beyond its predecessors. MH World peaked at 334,684 players, while MH Rise reached 231,360. However, MH Wilds currently holds a Mixed rating on Steam, with only 57% of its 54,669 reviews being positive. Many negative reviews highlight the game's poor optimization for PC and various performance issues.

Capcom Responds To PC Performance Issues

In response to the backlash regarding MH Wilds' PC performance, Capcom has taken proactive steps to address these concerns. The official Monster Hunter Status account on Twitter (X) posted on February 28, 2025, offering solutions to the reported issues. The post directed players to the MH Wilds support website, which lists a variety of fixes and suggestions. These include updating video/graphics drivers, checking for the latest Windows updates, and performing a clean installation of video drivers.

If these solutions don't resolve the issues, Capcom advises players to visit the "Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread" on the Steam community page, which offers more detailed troubleshooting steps.

Game-breaking Bug Blocking Story Progress

A significant game-breaking bug has emerged, preventing players from progressing through the story. This bug causes a vital NPC to not appear during Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 A World Turned Upside Down. Monster Hunter Status acknowledged this issue on Twitter (X) on March 2, 2025, and confirmed that the team is actively working on a fix.

Additionally, players have reported issues with the "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features not unlocking despite meeting the criteria, as well as problems visiting the Smithy. The developers have responded by rolling out hotfixes and updates across various platforms to address these concerns.

Character Editing Locked Behind Microtransactions

MH Wilds introduces microtransactions for character customization, requiring players to purchase vouchers to change their character's appearance and their Palicos. The Monster Hunter Wilds - Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack allows players to redo their character creation process three times for $6.00, available on all digital storefronts.

While players can alter hair, eyebrow color, facial color, makeup, and clothing without additional cost, more extensive changes require the voucher. The same applies to Palicos, with a separate voucher pack needed for their customization. Another option is a $10 voucher, which permits three edits for both the character and Palico. However, Capcom is offering a single character edit voucher for free. These microtransactions were not part of the testing phase but were announced to be included in the final game.
