Suits remains one of television's most beloved dramas, maintaining popularity nearly 15 years after its 2011 debut on USA Network. The legal series experienced renewed popularity when Netflix added all seasons, sparking countless binge-watching sessions - yet this resurgence couldn't save the spinoff Suits LA, which NBC canceled while announcing its fall schedule. Network executives explained their reasoning behind this decision.
"Determining which shows to renew is always challenging," explained Jeff Bader, NBCUniversal's president of program planning strategy, speaking with Variety after the schedule release. "Suits LA had a brief run, but failed to connect with audiences as we'd anticipated."
"Viewers speculate about various reasons for its lack of traction," Bader continued. "Ultimately, the show didn't demonstrate enough potential for future growth."

The executive elaborated on NBC's evaluation process: "We analyze multiple performance metrics across linear and digital platforms. We assess stability trends, growth patterns, and decline indicators before making these difficult programming decisions."
Bader confirmed NBCUniversal considers transferring canceled shows to Peacock, but Suits LA didn't receive this transitional opportunity.
Regarding successful renewals, Bader outlined NBC's criteria: "We examine weekly ratings performance across all platforms while our creative teams evaluate audience expansion potential. Only shows excelling in both aspects earn renewal spots - especially crucial as we accommodate increased NBA programming."
The original Suits aired nine seasons from 2011-2019. The Los Angeles-set spinoff premiered February 2025 starring Stephen Amell with appearances by original cast members. Series creator Aaron Korsh helmed the revival, which concluded its single-season run on May 11, 2025.
