While a Nintendo interactive alarm clock might not have been on anyone's 2024 prediction list, it's here! Nintendo has launched the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, alongside a secretive Switch Online playtest.

Free Alarm Sound Updates on the Way!
Priced at $99, the Alarmo uses game sounds to coax you out of bed. Nintendo boasts that it makes you feel like you're waking up inside your favorite game. Featuring sounds from Mario, Zelda, Splatoon, and more, with free updates promised, the Alarmo offers a unique wake-up experience.
The alarm's interactivity lies in its motion detection. Simply waving your hand will quieten the alarm, but staying in bed will only make it louder. The alarm only stops when you fully leave your bed, a "brief victory fanfare" for those successful mornings. Setup is straightforward: choose a game, select a scene, set your alarm time, and let the Alarmo work its magic.
Utilizing a radio wave sensor, the Alarmo measures distance and movement speed without using video recording, prioritizing user privacy. Nintendo developer Tetsuya Akama highlights its ability to detect subtle movements, even in dark rooms or with obstacles, thanks to the radio wave technology.
Early Access for Nintendo Switch Online Members!
For a limited time, US and Canadian Nintendo Switch Online members can purchase the Alarmo through the My Nintendo Store before its general release. The Nintendo New York store also offers in-person purchases while supplies last.
A New Nintendo Switch Online Playtest
Applications Open October 10th!
Separately, Nintendo has announced a Switch Online playtest, with applications open from October 10th, 8:00 AM PT / 11:00 AM ET to October 15th, 7:59 AM PT / 10:59 AM ET. This playtest focuses on a new feature for the Nintendo Switch Online service.
Up to 10,000 participants will be selected, with those outside Japan chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications may close early if the participant limit is reached. Eligibility requires:
- An active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership by October 9th, 2024, 3:00 PM PDT.
- Age 18 or older by October 9th, 2024, 3:00 PM PDT.
- A Nintendo Account registered in Japan, the USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, or Spain.
The playtest itself runs from October 23rd, 2024, 6:00 PM PT / 9:00 PM ET to November 5th, 2024, 4:59 PM PT / 7:59 PM ET.
