Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks
Nintendo has issued an uncommon statement regarding the recent flurry of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. The company confirmed that the circulating images are not official, citing its absence from this year's Consumer Electronics Show. This brief comment, while seemingly obvious, represents a rare public acknowledgement of product leaks by the typically tight-lipped company.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of its entry into mass production. A notable leak occurred when accessory manufacturer Genki displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025. Images of this model quickly spread across social media.
Following inquiries from the Sankei Shimbun, Nintendo officially declared the Genki replica "not official." The company emphasized its non-participation in CES 2025, thus invalidating any Switch 2 imagery originating from the event as official promotional material.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo didn't comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with existing leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is the addition of a new button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C," with an unknown function. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, while unable to clarify the "C" button's purpose, shared other details, including the alleged magnetic attachment of the Joy-Cons and their potential use as mouse input devices – claims supported by previous reports.
Nintendo's previous statements indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, the company still has time to fulfill this promise. However, a retail release isn't expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point of $399.
