Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Function as Computer Mice
Emerging circumstantial evidence suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons could offer a novel functionality: acting as computer mice. While the widespread adoption of this feature by game developers remains uncertain, it aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative controller experimentation.
The evidence, shared by Famiboards user LiC, originates from Vietnamese customs data related to a suspected Nintendo parts supplier. This data source has previously yielded numerous Switch 2 rumors.
In early January 2025, LiC revealed entries detailing polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape described as "mouse soles" and intended "to stick to game console handles." The "mouse soles" designation, typically used for the bottom of computer mice, hints at mouse-like functionality for the Switch 2 Joy-Cons.
Two "mouse sole" model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were referenced. These numbers haven't been found in public component databases, suggesting they represent unreleased products. The data indicates both tapes measure 90 x 90mm, potentially large enough to cover the entire back of the Joy-Cons, though trimming would likely be necessary.
Not a First for Handheld Consoles
While unconventional, a mouse-like controller mode isn't unprecedented. The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, features a right controller that transforms into a mouse when rotated sideways. Lenovo even supplies a plastic piece to optimize its surface glide.
The Legion GO also boasts magnetic controller rails—a feature rumored for the Switch 2. This similarity further fuels speculation about the Switch 2's design and functionality.
