Nintendo's $10 Switch 2 mini-game collection, which many fans argue should have been free, demands at least $95 in accessories to fully complete.
Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour launches today with the new console, featuring a variety of mini-games and experiences crafted to highlight the updated hardware.
However, some mini-games showcase the Switch 2's camera and exclusive GL/GR buttons, which are absent from standard Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers. These require a separately sold Charging Grip or Pro Controller, as noted by NintendoSoup.
Additionally, a 4K TV is necessary for those without one or planning to use the Switch 2 solely in handheld mode.
Fans report that three mini-games require specific gear: a camera for one mini-game, a controller with GL/GR buttons for another, and a 4K-compatible screen for one mini-game plus a separate tech demo.
To experience everything in Switch 2 Welcome Tour, players must cover the $10 game cost, plus $54.99 for a Switch 2 Camera and either $39.99 for a Charging Grip or $84.99 for a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller to access the GL/GR buttons.
A helpful tip: the Switch 2 supports third-party USB-C webcams, which may be a cheaper alternative.
While the Switch 2 is compatible with the Switch 1 Pro Controller, it lacks the required GL/GR buttons, meaning additional purchases are unavoidable. Due to tariffs, these accessories also cost slightly more at launch than initially announced.

Nintendo has faced backlash for not bundling Switch 2 Welcome Tour with the console. Designed as an interactive guide to the new hardware, Welcome Tour would have been an ideal inclusion, much like Wii Sports was for the Wii.
Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé weighed in, recalling the Wii Sports debate. He successfully pushed for its inclusion in the U.S. and Europe, despite Japanese executives’ preference to sell it separately, leading to Wii Sports’ massive success.
“The $10 price tag for learning about the Switch 2 cartridge slot or viewing an HDR fireworks show has sparked debate, worsened by Nintendo’s decision to charge for Welcome Tour,” IGN noted recently. The extra costs may further influence purchasing decisions.
IGN also reported today on damaged Switch 2 consoles caused by retailers stapling through the slim packaging. Buyers, whether purchasing Welcome Tour or not, should take note.
