Pokemon Presents on February 27th: No Switch 2 Announcements Expected
Don't expect any reveals regarding Switch 2 Pokemon titles during the upcoming Pokemon Presents on February 27th. While leaks suggest an imminent Switch 2 unveiling, it appears the Pokemon franchise will remain on the original Switch console for the time being. The focus of the Pokemon Presents will likely be on Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
The Nintendo Switch 2's existence has been confirmed by Nintendo, promising backward compatibility and account carryover from the original Switch. However, details remain scarce, with current knowledge stemming primarily from leaks describing a more powerful, larger iteration of the original console.
While future Pokemon games are undoubtedly destined for the Switch 2, reports indicate the February 27th Pokemon Presents will showcase titles developed for the original Switch. Thanks to backward compatibility, these games will also be playable on the new console.
No Switch 2 Pokemon News Expected
The Pokemon Presents will likely feature updates on existing live-service titles such as Pokemon GO and Pokemon Trading Card Game Live. Pokemon Legends: Z-A, slated for release on the original Switch this year, is also anticipated to receive attention. While a brief teaser showcased Lumiose City, returning Pokemon, and the return of Mega Evolutions, much remains unknown. Rumors also point towards another main series Pokemon game launching this year.
Speculation suggests a new main series entry, distinct from Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Generation 10, may be revealed. Possible candidates include Pokemon Black and White remakes or a new Let's Go installment. These, too, are expected to launch on the original Switch, further suggesting that Generation 10 will be the first major Pokemon series to debut exclusively on the Switch 2.
This strategy aligns with the Pokemon franchise's historical tendency to leverage established hardware with larger user bases. Remember Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, released for the original DS instead of the 3DS? History may be repeating itself. However, until official confirmation, fans will have to tune into the February 27th Pokemon Presents to know for sure.
