Choosing Your Steed in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2: Pebbles vs. Herring
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Henry faces the delightful dilemma of choosing between two horses: Pebbles and Herring. Both become available later in the game, after the prologue's unfortunate loss of your initial mount. So, which horse reigns supreme?
Acquiring Pebbles
You'll encounter Pebbles at the Semine estate before Lord Semine and Agnes' wedding. Located in the stables, she requires purchase to ride during the "The Jaunt" quest with Jan Semine. However, her significance extends beyond mere utility; she's Henry's loyal companion, akin to Mutt (obtained through side quests).
Obtaining Herring
Herring becomes available after completing "For Whom the Bell Tolls." If you haven't acquired another horse, Otto von Bergow gifts you Herring. Alternatively, if you already possess a horse, you can sell Herring to Kabat for 300 Groschen.
The Verdict: Pebbles' Superiority
While Herring boasts initially higher base stats, this advantage is deceptive. Each horse unlocks a stat-boosting perk after covering a specific distance. Pebbles' perk activates after 35 kilometers, compared to Herring's 50 kilometers. Furthermore, Pebbles is potentially free, offering excellent value.
Post-perk boost, Pebbles' stats are:
- Stamina: 217
- Capacity: 353
- Speed: 53
- Courage: 12
These stats, combined with her early availability and faster perk unlock, make Pebbles the superior choice. Her reliability, decent stats, and sentimental value as Henry's former steed solidify her position as the ideal mount. The considerable amount of travel in the game necessitates a trustworthy companion, and Pebbles fits the bill perfectly.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
